Once there was a subsidiary of Drag City called Dexter's Cigar. Dexter's Cigar was a project curated by David Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke. Their concept was a simple one - to reissue of albums that once turned heads around and started them looking towards the future. Mainly their heads. You know, we all had favorites and forgotten classics in our younger days. These were the sounds that defined us once. We were told something we didn't know then, and, like a dream that predicted the future, it may just have saved our lives. The only difference is, these guys got to reissue some of their own personal classics.

And so we had the formula for the sadly short-lived Dexter's Cigar label. with Mayo Thompson's 1970 solo LP Corky's Debt to His Father (on Drag City) as a proverbial initial release. A cursory look at the catalog below will reveal that a few of these projects returned to the dust that they were reissued from. And though Dexter's Cigar is no more, projects like Arnold Dreyblatt's Nodal Excitations (1982) and Folke Rabe's What?? (1970) are now back in the public ear, ensuring that the future will one day shine like the past - thanks to Dexter's Cigar.
