Bitchin Bajas are making their wavy-gravy way across our landmass, projecting their meditation vibes into medium-scale theater spaces while on tour with commercial act, Deerhunter. Amidst these support gigs, Bajas have set up their own shows in several comfortable environs, and one such experience happens to be extremely special: tonight, Olivia Wyatt's Sailing A Sinking Sea screens for the first time in Los Angeles, following which, Bitchin Bajas will perform live!
See, Sailing A Sinking Sea, Olivia Wyatt's feature-length documentary exploring the culture of the Moken people of Burma and Thailand, was scored by Bitchin Bajas! Not only that, but it's set for release on LP+DVD (one package!) come May 13th.
The Moken are a seafaring community and one of the smallest ethnic minority groups in Asia, traditionally spending eight months out of the year in thatch-roofed wooden boats, wholly reliant upon the sea! Sailing A Sinking Sea premiered at SXSW last year and went on to play Hot Docs, BFI London, Margaret Mead and recently won the Audience Choice Award at the Singapore International Film Festival. The film and music are spiritually intertwined, so this event, featuring a Q&A with the director, is a happening not to be missed! But since it's already sold out, we hope you didn't sleep on it, Los Angeles!
Doors 8pm / Film begins at 8:30pm
Followed by a Q&A with the Director and performance by Bitchin' Bajas.
