The Soccer Club Club, a gallery space on the northwest side of Chicago curated and maintained by Drag City, opens it's doors once again to welcome all you art (p)hags and jags to the opening of its latest exhibit, called "His Father Before Him," on Friday, September 21st, from 7PM to 10PM.
"His Father Before Him" contains real pieces of work by Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist, Dirk Knibbe. Reflecting the content of Knibbe’s latest book of the same title (published by Black Tent Press), this new collection examines ingrained legacies and learned methods of failure. Yup, American athletics, pornography, and breeding preferences all get their due, as do faith constructs and communication design. Sounds like heavy shit, no? Yeah? OK, but don't get too upset, this show is gonna be fun, too, with music from Portland's Sun Foot, booze, and DJ spinnanigans from Jon Philips.
A SAIC alum, "His Father Before Him" is Knibbe's first solo show in Chicago. He's also founder of Black Tent Press, a limited edition art press and record label based in Los Angeles. This is the 2nd exhibit for Soccer Club Club, newly representing the far-wild-west-side with a raised, checkered, Drag City flag.
