Are y’all ready for some Hillbilly Erotica? Sir Richard Bishop returns for a new spontaneous six-string meshing of people’s music, recollections and psychic intentions with a new album out in the wild on July 31. Hear the first single “Finger, Tennessee” today, released with a music video by Sir Rick himself.

“Finger, Tennessee” is an acoustic improvisation that feels inexplicably miraculous. Extruding LOUD, Sir Richard's “hillbilly” playing is downright reckless, flying up and down the neck with a melodic, anthemic light. The music video orbits above green pastures and rocky ridgelines while the medley spurs a revolution of the mind; the song title is an actual dot on the map in rural Tennessee, part of an ancestral interzone that's a venue of interest for Rick.

Hillbilly Erotica – as with 2025’s Hillbilly Ragas — is hung round the neck of John Fahey’s infamous dubbing of certain traditional American folk sounds as “American Primitive.” A perfectly good thought, but Sir Richard picks his own axe to carve his own definition here! He plays one acoustic guitar on all eight cuts, no overdubs and, but for the closing “Postcoital Serenade,” improvised entirely. As he describes it, Hillbilly Erotica is:

“…still exploring the areas around these parts with a similar type of aggression [as Hillbilly Ragas], but as morning light approaches, a clearing or two present themselves, with hills and valleys viewable in the distance inspiring a slightly different sonic landscape. One could be forgiven for feeling a sense of relief from finally arriving from out of the night-time woods to a place which may seem less threatening in the daylight, but it’s a trap — the darkness of night is always right around the corner. Enjoy the postcoital smoke but tread carefully!”

This June, spy upon Sir Richard Bishop’s steel-stringed fury as he embarks upon a West Coast tour; tickets are on sale now. Hillbilly Erotica is out July 31, 2026.
