PRISON BUST OUT THE BIG RIGS

posted June 2nd, 2026

Prison’s new album, Big Rigs on the BQE, pulls up July 31, sounding miles away from last year's Downstate and 2023's Upstate. Their third big one is an improvised rock and roll tapestry rended with gas ‘n guitar pedal on down to the metal; hear a cut of of the first side, "Sunrise Highway," today with a scorching music video by Johnny Celentano and Cliff Elor.

Wheels rolling full-tilt, rhythm churning, guitars screaming and mind-bongo-ling percussion in a boiling roil, Prison plunge into "Sunrise Highway" at a pace that’s bound to dump their whole rig straight into the East River! The single edit is a speedy, straight-out-of-the-garage psychedelic arrow, its screaming drone forged live from guitars, bass, drums, fuzz organ and vocals. The music video is a blacklight nightmare from the highway underbelly; a tale of sinister reapers and burning six-strings, the mutated visuals amplifies Prison's rhythmic heatwave into a glorious sensory overload.

Big Rigs on the BQE was tracked at a Sunset Park studio where the band could see the highway from the windows. In a way, it set the tone for the two side-long trips Prison would soon embark on. On guitar & drums are Prison vets Sarim Al-Rawi, Matt Lilly and Paul Major (Endless Boogie); they're joined by Mike Donovan on fuzz organ, percussionist Ryan Sawyer, and Downstate’s Matt Leibowitz on bass and synth, along with studio honcho/engineer/mixer Adam Reich scoring a couple FX/remix passages on both sides. Prison's third record together is an unhitched snapshot of the band's explosive live performances: the sound of each player in wicked battle and glorious play, powered by a far-ranging scrum of Groundhogs/Velvets/Pink Fairies/Good Rats/CAN.

Prison of one, freedom of many! Hit the road with Big Rigs on the BQE on July 31, 2026.
