WAND WILL BE THE HIGHWAY - TASTE THEIR PERFUMES

posted April 9th, 2018

Today's a great day! And we're sure you know why too - because this day is the closest we've yet been to the release date of Wand's next rec, the 12"EP/CDEP called "Perfume"! It's set for about six weeks from now - May 25th, to be precise - which bodes well for your levels of spring fever, break, cleaning and all the rest of the rebirth rituals in which we'll all soon be engaged in anticipation of the summer breakout.

"HORSES"

It was a silver age of 7” singles in the early 1990’s.  The third single attributed to a Palace conglomerate was the equine-themed “Horses”/”Stable Will”.  “Horses” was recorded by Steve Good, who has recorded live underground shows in Louisville for decades.  The session took place primarily at a house shared by Bob Nastanovitch, Will Oldham, and Britt Walford.  Photographs from the session show Brian McMahan playing the drums, Walford playing bass, and Todd Brashear playing the lap... JOHN REBOURN LIVE IN JAPAN

posted April 5th, 2018

An evening in a coffee house in Kyoto 40 years ago has lingered fondly in the memories of those who were there. Now, the stellar performance of John Renbourn that night is available for all to hear on Live in Kyoto 1978John Renbourn, along with his sometimes partner Bert Jansch (with whom he formed Pentangle in the 1960s), has been passed away for these past few years - but the music that he made continues to inspire. Renbourn's style mixed these traditions with classical, jazz, world and early... CIRCUIT DES TOUR DATES!

posted April 3rd, 2018

Wherever she may roam, Circuit des Yeux's work ethic can easily be attributed to the continuous, compulsive spreading of the Reaching For Indigo gospel. We aren't complaining - and neither are the hordes of live music fans that support each and every show in whatever country, city, and venue that compulsion takes CdY. See, Circuit des Yeux, including not just the electrifying Haley Fohr but also her backing band of talented and dialed in pals, has a presence that is simply undeniable.

OHIO RIVER BOAT SONG

It was the summer of 1992 and Todd Brashear invited his friend Will Oldham to come live with him in Bloomington, Indiana where Brashear was in the Audio Engineering program at IU.  Oldham moved into a house with Brashear and his schoolmate Grant Barger, and soon they began working on music all together.  They set up a weekend session at the house with Barger at the controls, using his 8-track cassette recording machine (not to be... A FAIR FLOWER BLOSSOMS THROUGHOUT THE LAND

posted March 29th, 2018

What News is Alasdair Roberts' fourth album focused exclusively on the performance of traditional songs, all of which aim to bring the auld songs forward, but also to re-imagine them for modern listeners. What News features David McGuinness on pianofortes and fortepianos of various vintages (plus the odd dulcitone) and Amble Skuse providing electronic embellishments, while Alasdair sets the guitar aside (with one or two exceptions) to focus on his singing. This is in part to allow the unique qualities of David and Amble's... (read more)

You know where you are? You're in the Fishcenter, babay, and you're gonna diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie! Just Kidding! In fact, watching Bitchin Bajas' hypnotic performance on Adult Swim's Fishcenter Live actually has the opposite outcome, breathing fresh new life into the body and rejuvenating the soul. A WOLF AT BIG EARS

posted March 23rd, 2018

Bonnie Prince Billy's cosmic path is passing through Tennessee this weekend - more specifically, through Knoxville, and to be even more precise, through the Big Ears Festival that's happening RIGHT NOW. This isn't just any normal Bonnie Prince manistation - which is not to imply that there IS such a thing - instead, both he and Cheyenne Mize are performing with Norweigian vocalist supreme, Susanna, this evening.  In and among the surprises of the performance will be included songs from Bonny's recently-released Wolf... CRYING QUIETLY...WITH CHRIS GANTRY!

posted March 23rd, 2018

Chris Gantry's At the House of Cash turned a lot of heads last fall, and why shouldn't it have? An archival release from the golden days of the Nashville Outlaw sound, and a totally outrageous artifact from the cowboy-hippie era's Search for Higher Meaning, At the House of Cash stretched past the limits of acceptability of it's day with a heady song-stew allusively referencing all manner of celestial visions under the sun - from Jesus to peyote! That's just the kind of stew we... (read more)
