HOMETOWN HEROES: THE NEXT WAVE

posted February 24th, 2014

Only out a week, the first release in Fred Armisen's Hometown Heroes series is thus far a bonafide hit everywhere, locally at least! So let's keep it going! For the second volume of this acclaimed series, Fred has again reached into his deep supply of locally-pressed records to present two more under-sung local heroes from the history of music, a 7" featuring The Bjelland Brothers' "Sparkling Apple Juice" and Taste of New York's "Can We Stay With You," out March 18th!

HARMONY SEZ, "WTF?!?"

posted February 20th, 2014

A Crackup at the Race Riots is the great American Choose-Your-Own-Adventure novel, Harmony Korine's scrapped, cut-and-paste examination of the darkness in life via found letters, Tupac's favorite novels, suicide notes and spot-on n' off color commentary veiled as Floridian race war with leaders MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice, respectively. Appealing greatly to our senses and, we imagined, yours, Drag City reish'd the book around this time last year, coinciding with the release of Korine's latest film, Spring Breakers. Now word on the... (read more)

WHEN THE SHIP COMES IN

Nobody loves you – and what if they did? Your every admission of selfhood would be greeted with a mewling, puking retaliation intended to establish equivalency – and ultimately, supremacy – forcing you to the sidelines of your own life so as to watch the real star, your sick (sic) other. These are “relationships” –  so perhaps you'll join us then in our delight as the earth’s surface is decimated by tornados, arctic vortexes, earthquakes and high water... (read more)

PURLING HISS GET DIZZY ON THE ROAD

posted February 17th, 2014

The Purling Hiss sound is revered by discerning listeners for its devastational waves of guitar rock crashing atop sweet melodies and pile-driving rhythm tunes alike. These contrasts in the hands of Mike Polizze impact upon buzzing pleasure centers for each listener, more of them with every lick - people who like rock songs and like to sing along and don't mind a little dirt for their trouble, live or on record. In a best of both worlds scenario, you've got a hot "new" Hiss LP... (read more)

DEAD RIDER, BLANK SCREEN, LIVE SHOWS!

posted February 13th, 2014

With bated breath, we (and we hope, you) are counting the minutes til the release of Chills On Glass - but in these crusty, rotting, black icy n' snowed up mid-winter days, time moves all too slowly. Dead Rider's approaching though - always there with a fiery (and helping) hand, they have brought a sensation-tingler of a video for the Chills On Glass jammer, "Blank Screen," to ebb our unnerving hunger!

Dead Rider, featuring the axe-wielding heroics of former U.S. Maple... (read more)

DEATH COMES IN THREES

posted February 12th, 2014

The rumors of our Death are greatly un-exagerrated! With all the portent of a polite throat-clearing, NPR on Monday premiered one freshly disenterred vintage Death jam, "North St." - but this is just the jagged tip of the iceberg that will be fully cutting into the hull of your life-ship this Spring! Yes, a whole LP of previously unheard recordings spanning the early and late lives of Death is set for release in April: Death III! Word! Death III is the spiritual end of... (read more)

ONE MORE CUP OF COFFEE

It's wintertime in America – polar winds howling atop six feet of snow with more on the way – and down below, the ground all around our (reasonably) weatherproofed ivory bunker is cold and hard. Not quite the dead of winter yet, but getting there! Still, you wouldn't know it from the level of activity here – the Drag City staff is here there and everywhere, bouncing off the walls, killing floors and dancing on the... (read more)

NEW MERSH: MARKETING NEW BUMS

posted February 4th, 2014

Hey, New Bums are rollin' in! Voices In A Rented Room arrives February 18th, for which we're already stoked, but on top of that these fucks just keep adding tour dates, which stokes us even more! Oh, and forgive us if we re-mention the "killer" video for "The Killers And Me" that hit the inter-webs a couple weeks back, but we just can't help it - what loveable fucks! Today, the Bums deliver something new altogether: a disturbingly addictive commercial for Voices In... (read more)

DEATH IN 2014. PARIS IS FIRST....

posted January 31st, 2014

If we could, we'd never stop bringing Death to you. Who wouldn't? A group of African-American brothers, who played hard/punk-rock in total obscurity in mid-70s Detroit, only to be discovered and celebrated 25 years later when a box of their 7" record, very few of which were made to begin with, entered the trader-scum market? WHAT! But you've seen the doc, right? If you haven't, flip on A Band Called Death - and after seeing that, you'll probly want to rock For the Whole World... (read more)
