Fumio Miyashita’s long awaited live sets from the California based Boffomundo Show are finally available on vinyl this Friday! Videos from the taped live sets, recorded in 1979 and 1980 respectively, have been circulating on Youtube for years and caught the eye of Brian Weitz (aka Geologist, from the influential trio Animal Collective), who helped facilitate getting this incredible music to us so it could be released for the first time on any format! Fittingly, Brian and Ron Curtiss, co-creator of The... (read more)

BLACK FLY IN THE OINTMENT

posted September 18th, 2017

Circuit des Yeux's forthcoming album, Reaching For Indigo, encompasses and surpasses the musical journey of Haley Fohr's previous output. An unparalleled piece of contemporary music, the album references a definitive moment in time that fell down on January 22nd, 2016, one that could be felt deep within the Earth's atmosphere-- and likely within multiple dimensions! That definitive moment is sure to resonate for a long time, cause Reaching for Indigo is an album reflecting an inward, emotive and cerebral vision so powerful,... (read more)

GOTTA LIGHT? THE PEACERS HAVE FUEL TO BURN

posted September 14th, 2017

Stealthily creeping out from beneath the rock and redressing the good ol' sock-hop days with an acid crash-The Peacers' still-fresh new album (with a potential shelf-life of DECADES; keep in mind for your underworld bunker) Introducing The Crimsmen melds charcoal-grey sprays of chaos with sugar-tender sentiment. Glad and sorry, spat through a grin and ready to rock yuh. The video for "Jurgen's Layout" develops in sulking monotones of dreamy nightmare sequences depicting vast landscapes and barren wilderness. Sucking through the atmosphere like a... (read more)

Ty Segall has a mountain of song at his disposal and he's capable of wielding boulders from it at any given moment in any situation, be it live or on record! His "Fried Shallots" EP came out a month ago to benefit the American Civil Liberties Union, but Ty Segall is liberally still touring off the back of January's Self-Titled release, a masterpiece of his ever evolving catalog! BRING YOUR CREW: DEAD RIDER ARE ON TOUR

posted September 12th, 2017

After the thousand days and nights since their last album, Chills on Glass, Dead Rider had to overcome the creeping suggestion that they multitask themselves to sleep - or to premature brain death - whichever came first! And thank gawd, too, because that means we've got a new rippin' album to dig: Crew Licks is hot on our tails! Right on top of it's September 22nd release, Dead Rider will bring the chopped-n-screwed skronk, acid-drenched guitar licks and lode-bearing beats on the road, direct... (read more)

WAND OBSCURE THE SUN WITH NEW SONG, "BLUE CLOUD"

posted September 6th, 2017

After a whirlwind initial phase of writing, recording, and touring at a frenetic pace, Plum marks a period of relative patience for Wand, a refocusing and a push toward a new democratization of both process and musical surface. Process, surface, democratization - sheesh! Listen, above all it's some deeply moving and exploratory-as-fuck rock music, and there’s no better example of these sonic attributes than freshly dropped new single, “Blue Cloud". For some insightful journalism, we refer to a quote from esteemed British rag, Uncut,... (read more)

A CHILD IN THE SUN RETURNS!

posted September 6th, 2017

If you, the discerning record collector, has even a passing interest in the posthumously named genre "acid folk", surely the name Ed Askew is in your golden pantheon. Askew recorded the sublimely gorgeous LP Ask the Unicorn in 1968 for the legendary proto-DIY label ESP records, which has now been recognized as a god-damn underground classic. Armed only with a tiple (sort of a South American mandolin), Askew spun tales of doomed sisters, crashing universes, budding gay love, and a serious fondness for roses on his rare, precious and beautiful album.

RIDER ALERT! SOMETHING IDEAL THIS WAY COMES

posted August 31st, 2017

Yeah, so Rock and roll? Basically a used-up coloring book at this point. Some nice colors and shapes in there; for anyone who worked one of them, a useful blueprint. But when you're trying to raise high out the beams of something for NOW, who better than to Dead Rider to savagely rip out pages and paste in new color combination to suit the mood of today? Take "The Ideal"! Ever wonder how Crew foreman Todd Rittmann has been able to sling smooth rhythm &... (read more)

JOURNEY TO THE HOUSE OF CASH WITH CHRIS GANTRY

posted August 31st, 2017

Chris Gantry's music was always stylistic fusion: his 1967 album debut Introspection sounded a little bit folk, a little bit pop and only a little bit country, with smooth melodies and verdant string charts. But the 60s were afoot, and by the time of Chris' second LP in 1970, Motor Mouth, his approach had radicalized into a wide-eyed, hard-edged delivery. The critics dug it, and Chris played on Johnny Cash's TV show, but the next Gantry record didn't appear for five more years.... (read more)
