WHERE HAVE YOU GONE, MEG BAIRD?

posted February 15th, 2013

Artists! Right? They always feel the need for change (keeps the creative rolling constant), some things always gotta stay the same - such as a need for bread, you know? Or cheese, or lettuce, depending on your agricultural region. We're talking about dosh, paying bills, making do (or do wah diddy, if the spirit moves 'em). So just cause Meg Baird moved from Philly to San Francisco doesn't mean she's taking a breather or something/anything, ok? In fact, she's taking advantage of the new locale... (read more)

FEATHERED FISH MAKES A SPLASH

posted February 13th, 2013

What is Feathered Fish? It all started when artist and musical freak Jennifer Herrema, Black Bananas front-woman, approached her favorite jewelry designer, Pamela Love, about collaborating on a remake of the iconic Royal Trux skull ring. Pamela, a longtime fan of Jennifer’s and a musician herself, immediately said, hell yes! Realizing they have way more in common than just skull rings, ideas poured like wine and moonshine- too fine and too strong to let go by the wayside. These visions... (read more)

posted February 12th, 2013

Springtime's for tantric coupling, right? Peace, Sting! So May 1st is (very) high time for a theatrical premiere of THE SOURCE FAMILY, the feature-length documentary directed by Maria Demopoulos and Jodi Wille about Father Yod and The Source Family's radical experiment in '70s utopian living, yo! It all begins at the IFC Center in New York: a pleasure chest of interviews with never-before-seen home movies, photographs, and original music created by The Source Family themselves provides an unparalleled insider's view into the cult/commune... ART AND MUSIC AT SOCCER CLUB CLUB

posted February 7th, 2013

The Soccer Club Club and is pleased to announce Wane's World: A History of "Things", a solo exhibition of works by Venice, CA-based artist, Becca Mann. Making paintings and drawings from photographs, applying a series of editing and transcribing strategies to work towards a sublimated analogue of the original image - sounds complex, right? Well in the "art" world it's called, "the process" (we assume, duh!), and it's exactly how Becca operates. Ms. Mann selects images in an attempt to create a dialog... (read more)

DAWN MCCARTHY & BONNIE 'PRINCE' BILLY DELIVER WHAT THE BROTHERS SANG

posted February 6th, 2013

February 19th is fast approaching! So it's now or never for you to take an exclusive look at the making of Dawn McCarthy and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's sweet, full-length Everly Brothers covers odyssey, What The Brothers Sang. Shot by Lara Miranda during the album's Nashville recording sessions (produced by David Ferguson at Butcher Shop Studio in McCreary County, KY), the footage provides bite-sized, behind-the-scenes glimpses into the languid, affecting, at times humorous, yet mostly downright spiritual creation of an extremely special album.

What... (read more)

SADIER SILENCIO ON THE GO

posted February 5th, 2013

Hey man, the life of a record extends well beyond its release, you know? And since we're still haunted by and jamming on the sounds of Silencio, last year's long playing classique from Laetitia Sadier, it's quite possible that you should, too! But don't jump off the bridge strictly on our account; instead, imagine the vast and varied areas of the world that have yet to take fresh and full stock in Sadier's sounds! The chantuese moderne takes her songs and dance... (read more)

A BOOK OF WORKS FROM A KIND OLDHAM MIND

posted February 1st, 2013

Joanne Oldham has worked primarily in the graphics arts field over the years, and many of her painted and collaged visuals have appeared in the art of some of our favorite Bonnie 'Prince' Billy album jackets, liners and posters - perhaps you remember the quiet beauty that is Lie Down In The Light? How about the Cairo Gang-collaborative wash of 'verb surrounding Wondershow Of The World? Yep, both bear the mark of Mrs. Oldham. She's been doing this for some time... (read more)

TYING UP LOOSE ENDS ON THE AIRWAVES

posted February 1st, 2013

Ty Segall tours are planned with thoughtful care, nurturing demographics with blade-sharp calculation and deep, sage wisdom. Hungry fans, sales, and media coverage are all considered and compiled in a collective hive mind telepathically shooting pins onto the map - a Nate Silver approach to rock n' roll touring that's never been known to fail. However, there are boundaries outside the lines, where one aspect of the equation may prevent a deserving city from experiencing Ty Segall live. Perhaps you dwell in one of these... (read more)
