Now when the music stops, find yourself a chair and sit on it. No pushin' people on the ground, no sittin' before the music stops, no "duck, duck, goose digressions," for Christ's almighty sake. And no, you can't go to the bathroom right now. This is important. No poutin' shoutin' or fuss aboutin', alright? Now, if you are lucky enough to be in the grace-a God and he wills that you win our little contest, your good friend and soundsystem operator Brigadeer Damus will take... (read more)

THE FAUN OF THE OPERA
posted January 9th, 2012
Dawn McCarthy heads the Faun Fables stable, and therefore is clearly no stranger to the stage. Typical Faun Fables performances are often quite theatrical, and of course, their Transit Rider album was itself a musical that, when toured, was performed theatrically. We're psyched to see Dawn dust off her acting hat once again, this time in The Crucible's production of MACHINE: A World Premiere Fire Opera. Dawn plays a lead as Brigid in the production, based on a sci-fi short by Derek J.... (read more)

DIRTY THREE ARE COMING
posted January 6th, 2012
It's been a wicked dry spell of seven years since the filthy unit of Mick Turner, Jim White, and Warren Ellis graced the world with a full-length of any kind. Sure, they've had their hands in many different pies in between then and now, as men are wont to eat fruit from different trees like the evolved chimps they are, but nothing comes close to what occurs when The Dirty Three lock themselves in a room with the tape rolling to milk whatever... SEE AZITA TO BELIEVE AZITA
posted January 5th, 2012
AZITA moved some waves in 2011 for GODdamn sure - releasing Disturbing The Air, an LPs-worth of piano and voice composition-waves; playing dates in the US o' A and over the waves into Europe, as well as landing in top ten spots in waves all across the planet - and we're expecting even more of her in 2012! Why shouldn't we? Her muse is clearly peaking and her key-playing and vocal chording is more precise and powerful than ever. AZITA never misses an opportunity... (read more)

HOWLING HEX A/V CLUB
posted January 3rd, 2012
Achtung baby humans and adult humans alike! All tableau vivant still-lifers have been reassigned to re-education at Camp David. Please vacate space and enter the multiverse to visi-grab the new The Howling Hex moving picture music video, available for viewing mandatory ahora. You will learn how to "read" the media, represented in trite-but-ubiquitous tabloid form (a sample prototype that every American can understand), in order to scan coded messages from God and absorb vibrational knowledge on a variety of histostorio-cultural fronts, including tidbits on JonBenet,... WOLFROY DONE GONE TO (TURKEY) TOWN
posted January 3rd, 2012
When we first listened to the newest record from Bonnie Prince Billy, we didn’t know the title of the album, but we heard a distinct voice stalking the players, making his violent presence known. And it’s not unusual for a Bonny record to channel a muse or, in the case of Wolfroy Goes to Town, create a character to carry the weight, but we never expected Wolfroy to be an actual entity! We begged the 'Prince' to let us see this roaming conspirator... (read more)

DISTURBING THE AIRWAVES FROM LONDON
posted December 22nd, 2011
Ever wonder what AZITA sounds like with a British accent? Us too! So we were pleased as punch when she winged on over to London to jam not only live in the clubs, but also on the radio, allowing us (and more importantly, YOU, right?) to electronically eavesdrop on her singing and playing like the bird (of prey) that she is. Resonance FM's Arctic Circle Radio program had the honor of hosting AZITA on the head-crushingly early side of a Monday morning back in November... (read more)

WHAT'S BIG, BLACK, AND SHAPED LIKE A BANANA?
posted December 21st, 2011
Why, a Black Bananas iron-on patch, ya dummy! Yeah, boy - fill your tolerated-one's XXXmas stockings with Black Banana iron on patches this Twistmas! Mount them on your Menorah! Deck your neighbor's wife's halls with boughs -- of patches! For real, these Black Bananas iron-on patches are ragin' and pre-determinedly legendarily legendary. Who (or what) else defines legendary better than Jennifer Herrema? There is no location on any piece of fabric on the planet that this patch won't make shamefully shameless! Buy it... (read more)

PLEASE TO GET YOUR GROOVE ON
posted December 13th, 2011
Damn, yo! It's barely a week since we recalled the ghost of GROOVY to the good ol' LP format for which it was conceived. When we say Groovy, we're outside the commonly understood vernacular, perhaps; ours and soon to be yours is three slices of avant-garde heaven released back in 1980 by Pete "Buzzcock" Shelley, Francis Cookson and like-minded others plus one previously unreleased album for good measure. Talk about under-the-radar early 80s electronic/experimentric shit!. Yeah. This shit was rare! But... (read more)

GIFTING A L'IL ESPERS
posted December 12th, 2011
And so we begin the 12 days of XXXmas here at Drag City; or wait, has Hanukkah dropped yet? When's Kwanza? Isn't it Chinese New Year already? We can't tell, to be honest - it was a heaven and hell of a weekend, ok? Partying with ourselves, then crashing holiday get-togethers everywhere we weren't allowed; I mean, in this day and age, where you're encouraged (and actually rewarded) by big brother to slight Mom n' Pop Shops in favor of online retail, it's important...
